Scientific research is part of the mission of the State University of Physical Education and Sports, constituting the necessary complementarity to the learning process.
The mission of the State University of Physical Education and Sports is to carry out the research and educational activity at national and international standards of excellence by:
-forming, developing, and consolidating the values of the new knowledge-based society;
-training specialists in the field of high-performance physical culture, by offering creative study programs, which integrate the results of scientific research and contribute to the intellectual development of students, master’s, and doctoral students;
-generation of competitive qualifications in university and postgraduate training;
-realization of sustainable partnerships with other organizations in the academic and business environment;
-integration of the Scientific Research Center in the field of physical education and sports of SUPES in European networks of excellence and the realization of fundamental and applied research generating knowledge;
-development of a teaching and research body of high professional and civic responsibility;
-promoting scientific, cultural, and ethical values in the national and international community.
The priority research directions in which the entire academic body of SUPES is successfully involved are reflected as follows:
1. Theoretical-methodological bases of the training system of physical culture specialists in the context of European integration.
2. The methodology of improving and implementing the physical education system at the level of pre-university and university education.
3. Theoretical-methodological bases of sports training.
4. Methodology for implementing medical and kinetotherapeutic diagnostic technologies in the field of physical culture.
5. Methodological analysis of the psycho-pedagogical and socio-humanistic processes of physical education and sports.
6. Educational and legal aspects of protection, guard and security.
The focus on human resources, on research infrastructure, on collaboration in inter-, multidisciplinary, geographical and institutional partnership, on the management of research projects, generates five general objectives regarding scientific research at the State University of Physical Education and Sports, each with specific objectives, namely:
-increasing the performance of human resources in terms of scientific research in the field of physical culture in order to ensure the international scientific visibility of SUPES;
-modernization of the research infrastructure, qualitative and quantitative, necessary for performance research at the level of the profile academic institution;
-development of national and international partnerships in order to increase the performance of scientific research;
-professionalization of research and management services of research projects in the field of physical culture;
- transforming scientific research into a fundamental component by creating the center of excellence in the field of physical culture research in order to develop competitiveness and obtain a strategic advantage in an increasingly dynamic competitive market.
The State University of Physical Education and Sports has developed and will further consolidate its own structures (Specialized Scientific Council, Center for Scientific Research in Physical Education and Sports, Doctoral School, scientific laboratories of departments) by capitalizing on the knowledge and transferring it to products and innovative services. These structures stimulate the creation and transfer of scientific knowledge, developing the research skills (especially multidisciplinary) of students, master’s and doctoral students in the field of physical culture, including young teachers. The university also encourages basic scientific research, completed through articles, monographs, reports, participation in scientific events, stimulates competition to attract financial resources, capitalize on scientific research results in publications from the main flow of knowledge in the field of physical culture, encourages access to sources and multiple opportunities, organization of national and international reference scientific events.
