The Chair of Modern Languages was set up in 1991, and is a structure of the university, which contributes to the training of future specialists in the fields: education sciences, sports sciences, security services, kinetotherapy. The main objective of teaching foreign languages possesses practical skills, of using them as a means of information and documentation of students, PhD candidates and post-graduates in studying original literature in the field, render, comment and argue on the acquired information from science fiction and mass media sources. The course Culture of Communication and Sports Language, as well as Techniques of communication have as aims accurate assimilation of the sports terminology; cultivation of fluent, coherent and accurate speech; completion of official documents, concerning the students' future profession.
The staff. The teaching/learning process is covered at present by 8 lecturers:
Vicol Dragos, dr. habil., university professor; Brega Viorica, PhD in philology, associate professor; Aliona Luca, PhD in philology, university lecturer; Natalia Nastas PhD in education sciences, university lecturer; Zinaida Coronovschi university assistant; Elena Bîrsa, university assistant, Mariana Gîdei, university assistant; Diana Cacian, university assistant.
The taught disciplines. The following disciplines are taught at the chair: French Language, English Language, Romanian Language (for non-Romanian language speakers), Culture of communication and sports language, Techniques of communication, as well as some high school disciplines such as: Language and communication, Romanian Language and Literature, Geography, Mathematics.
The scientific-didactic activity of the teachers is organized and carried out in accordance with the following documents: the Education Code of the Republic of Moldova, the Regulation on the organization of undergraduate studies (cycle I), the Regulation on the organization and functioning of the governing bodies of the University of Physical Education and Sports, SUPES Code of University Ethics, etc.
The objectives achieved for courses taught at the Chair is done by means of didactic strategies; selection of the contents of the instructive and educational process; gradual extension of the contents of education; systematization of the knowledge in a linear or concentric way; adequate combination of teacher/whole class and group work interaction; individual work of each student; integration of audio-visual techniques in the teaching of languages. Language teaching aids have a great educational importance and their goals are to increase the intellectual potential of the students.
The Chair has at its disposal modern classrooms, 2 language laboratories, equipment and necessary materials to provide the teaching process.
The scientific and methodological activity. The research carried out by the lecturers of the Chair is concentrated on the following directions: sports terminology, comparative-contrastive study of the syntactical units on the basis of texts on sport (in French and Romanian languages), methodology of teaching foreign languages, Olympic Movement.
Over the years, a series of scientific-methodical papers have been published: university courses-24; monographs-11; dictionaries-1; articles category ISI-7, category B + - 6, category B-81, category C-27; articles published in collections of scientific congresses and conferences -85, abstracts-93; articles in collections of scientific conferences of students-23.
With the aim of further professional training of the staff the methodological seminar “New perspectives in studying foreign languages” and Scientific-methodological seminar "Philological Studies: theoretical-applied aspects", where some up-to-date issues of foreign language methodology are discussed such as: interactive didactic strategy based on learning by means of collaboration and cooperation, the role of translation in teaching foreign languages in higher educational establishments of sports profile, evaluative conversations of students' knowledge, assimilation of the lexics on the specialty and of the common use at the foreign languages classes, further training of the lecturers, motivation of non-Romanian language students for learning Romanian languages and others. Individualized studies are reflected in the students' scientific research papers on such topics as: Physical education in school, Sports coaching, Olympic Games and Olympic Movement, High performance sport, Kinetotherapy and recreative physical education, Guard, protection and security, sports tourism, hotel services, etc.
Extracurricular educational activities are also organized by the members of the Chair, which have educational and instructive character, such as: Francophonie Days, contests in studied disciplines, parties, literary sittings, meetings with famous people etc., which have become traditional.
