Physical education and sport are the business card of any nation, and the health and development of society as a whole depends on how physical exercise is used for the benefit of each citizen. Today there is no sphere of human activity that is not directly dependent on physical education and sport, which are material and spiritual values recognized by society as a whole and by each individual. It is not coincidence that in recent years there is more and more talk about physical education as an independent social phenomenon, but also as a means of educating the human personality. Scientists in the field of physical education and sport mention in their works that “the cheapest medicinal preparation for the whole society is physical education and sport, as component parts of the general social culture”. The Faculty of Sport was founded with the establishment of the National Institute of Physical Education and Sport in 1991, with the aim of training highly qualified specialists in various branches of sport. During this period, the faculty organized and coordinated the educational and training process in order to expand the knowledge horizon of students, to ensure the exchange of experience with similar faculties in the country and abroad, to create opportunities for scientific activity, to stimulate participation in conferences, symposia, seminars, as well as the initiation of scientific research activities in the chosen sports event.
384 students and 111 master students study at the Faculty of Sport. The activity of the 46 teachers who ensure the educational process at the faculty from the 4 departments is oriented towards the fundamental and professional theoretical training of future specialists in the field of physical culture and sport, towards the application of adequate pedagogical influence systems, basic components of physical culture and of the methodologies specific to the field and towards the intensification of the training process and the optimization of the sports training process.
One of the ways to apply the skills and abilities accumulated in the didactic-sports activity carried out at the faculty is the specialized internships in various sports tests. In order to efficiently carry out the practical activities, the faculty concludes collaboration agreements with the Federations of athletics, judo, wrestling, football, swimming, rugby, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton and other federations, as well as with a number of sports institutions and organizations: Republican boarding-school with Sports Profile, “Speranta” Sports School, “Olimpia” Sports Club, Republican Wrestling Sports School, Specialized Football Sports School, Specialized Table Tennis Sports School from Dubasari, Lawn Tennis Sports School from Chisinau, Sports School No. 2 from Balti, “Olimpus” Handball Sports Club and various fitness centers from Chisinau city and from the Republic of Moldova.
Up to now, more than 2500 students have studied at the faculty, working in specialized institutions in the country and abroad, contributing to the promotion and prosperity of national sport, many of them representing national colors at important competitions, including the Olympic Games. Currently, the faculty is proud of its graduates, performance athletes: Larisa Popova, Nicolae Juravschi, Tudor Casapu – Olympic Champions; Sergiu Mureico and Natalia Valeeva, winners of the Olympic Games; Igor Bacal, Ion Bucsa, Vadim Tatarov, Alexandru Zaharov, Octavian Gutu, Roman Rozna, Ina Gliznuta, Olga Bolsova, Vadim Zadoinov, Iurie Bascatov, Victor Bivol, Victor Florecu, Ghenadie Tulbea, Mocrousov Elena and many others.
The Faculty of Sport is composed of four chairs: the Modern Languages Chair, the Athletics Chair, the Theory and Methodology of Games Chair and the Management of Physical Culture Chair.

In accordance with the Education Reform of the Republic of Moldova and with the imperatives of the Bologna Process, the students of the Faculty of Sport study in the field of professional training 1000 Sports Sciences, achieving one of the specialties:
Cycle I – Bachelor Degree:
- 1000.1 Sports training (coach at the chosen sports event) (period of studies – 4 years)
Cycle II – Masters Degree:
- Sports training technology (period of studies – 1,5 years) – 90 credits
- Sports training technology (period of studies – 2 years) – 120 of credits
- Theory and methodology of physical culture (period of studies – 2 years)
The faculty has modern classrooms equipped with technical means of training connected to the Internet and provides students with the following conditions:
- participations in local, national, international university competitions;
- scolarship opportunities abroad;
- Internet access;
- gyms equipped with modern equipment;
- methodical cabinets with multimedia equipment;
- sports equipment for students.
The training of specialists in the field of physical culture and sport is determined by the imperatives of modern society, the need to assert the university education of physical culture in the Republic of Moldova internationally and its inclusion in the European and world university environment. For this purpose, the Faculty of Sport aims as basic objective the internationalization of higher education in physical culture and sport in order to ensure the quality of the instructive-educational process by:
- promoting efficient cooperation with educational centers abroad;
- participation in international and scientific projects;
- internship of students and master students of the Faculty of Sport at the profile university centers abroad;
- organizing sports competitions and common training camps.
The network of international relations established by the Faculty of Sport through collaboration agreements with the profile faculty of the National University of Physical Education and Sport in Ukraine, with the faculties of physical education and sport in Romania (“Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, “A.I.Cuza” University of Iasi, “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, Ecological University of Bucharest, “Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacau, University of Pitesti to contribute to the improvement of the instructive-educational process and of the scientific research activity in the field of sport, by elaborating or modernization of programs, theoretical and practical courses.
The management body of the faculty is the Council of the Faculty of Sport. The members of the Faculty Council are persons with scientific-didactic title and students who make decisions regarding the academic and cultural life of the faculty.

Through its activity, the Council of the Faculty of Sport permanently improves, based on the new educational standards, the forms of training and education of students, in accordance with the Education Code of the Republic of Moldova and the SUPES Institutional Development Strategy (2021 – 2025).
